Summary/Abstract: The comparative study reveals that three types of composition – one-partite, two-partite and compound – can be observed in the lyrical love songs in Bulgarian, Slovak and Russian folklore. They are determined by the quality and the quantity of motifs involved in the structure of the folksong. What characterizes the Slovak songs is simplicity of structure both on the level of the song’s singular parts and on the level of the song itself. As a result there prevail songs with one-partite type of composition. The Russian songs are characterized by structural simplicity on the level of singular parts of the song and by a tendency towards a more complex structure on the song level. The composition is predominately two-partite and compound. Bulgarian songs reveal a tendency towards a more complex structure on the level of the song. The one-partite type of composition is more common among them as compared to the Russian songs, and the compound composition prevails in comparison with the Slovak ones.
