Summary/Abstract: The problem of the cyber universe represents the focus on which two busiest contemporary sciences, communication theory, and the theory of culture are deeply connected confirming their basic closeness. That is why it could be recognized from two different and confronted perspectives. The first is TRIUMFALISTICS which, enchanted by the possibilities of the Cyber Universe, overlooked the fact that the seductiveness of the Novum brought by the Technical, hides the destruction marked in its very core. On the other hand, CATACLYSMICS subordinates the welfare of technology to dangers that Techno novum gives to the values of Tradition. All the chosen texts are written in polemic tone, without any intention to offer definite solutions; still, each presents a kind of bizarre perspective enabling rethinking of the assumptions and results of Cyber Universe, which is the best confirmation of our hypothesis that there is no subject of the “hard” discourse of Humanities which could not be interpreted in the lights of the Cyber Culture. The problems of identity, virtual communities, censorship on the Net, new literacy, psychoanalitic theory and practise, technophobia and the question of gender, feminisam and the aesthetic of virtual are some of the topics in this issue. Finally, even though it could be said that the “virtual community” is not a mythical promised land, it certainly is no more dangerous and more inhospitable than Reality.
