Summary/Abstract: The canons of the Ecumenical Councils, along with all the other holy canons, have a central role in ensuring the smooth organization of Church life, as well as in ensuring the fulfilment of its mission, as they are rightly called the helm of the Catholic Church. Among the canons of the Ecumenical Councils for the fulfilment of the mission of the Church, we distinguish canons that require exercising the clergy’s learning power, and canons that regulate moral and social norms for both the clergy and the faithful. The canons of the Ecumenical Councils presented in this study are not only rules whose violation involves sanction. They are also elements supporting Church life for man, which, if observed, help live such a life as integrally as possible, and fulfil the true mission of the Church, which is salvation.
