Summary/Abstract: Duties and requirements pastoral ministry determined St. Epiphanius of Salamis to writes extensively in defense of the true faith, his work being constituted în a genuine methodological guidance for research and disproof the modern gnosticism. Escaping persecution of Late Antiquity, the gnosis survived and passed like a living body until today, inspiring the Middle Ages by means of Cathars and Modernity through the New Age movement. This organization offers a number of doctrines such as reincarnation or the appearance of the body of Christ, whereof, by appealing to Scripture, Epiphanius says: ‘For it showed Christ even the nails and spear marks... to prove that what they saw was a body’ (Panarion. LXIV, 64, 5).
