The Church establishment of the Bulgarian emigration in North America — a factor for the preservat-on of its national self-consciousness.

Summary/Abstract: The first Bulgarian churches in North America are being built by the end of 1900'es. They come as a result of the initiative and the efforts of the local Bulgarian emigration as well as, of the Holy Synode of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church for maintaining the Bulgarian national spirit and the home Orthodox faith of our compatriots in the U.S.A. and Canada. In the article are reviewed the reasons of preservation and the establishment of the Church, the most important of which being as follows: — the preservation of the Bulgarian Orthodox Faith of the Bulgarian emigration in North America, of the Bulgarian national belonging, of its centuries — old traditions and customs, the maintaining and studying the Bulgarian language. The Bulgarian Orthodox Church in North America with its varied and useful to people activity plays the role of a unifying and ethnodifferentiating factor for our compatriots there.
