Currency risk management in Polish enterprises in the light of best global practices

Summary/Abstract: The paper concerns the use of foreign exchange derivatives by Polish entrepre¬neurs at the end of 2008 and 2009. Only this period was taken into consideration due to the unprecedented scale of the losses from covered option transactions. In order to introduce the situation of Polish enterprises involved in foreign currency derivatives the data from UKNF reports are quoted. Then applications are confronted with the best global practices of risk management, which include the recommendations made by Bank of England. The summary includes a reflection that knowledge of risk management essence is a key to make the effecti¬ve use of the financial market tools.
