Global financial crisis and the challenges for sustainable development

Summary/Abstract: The article presents the consequences of global financial crisis for the economy, society and environment. The complexity and complications of this crisis influenced the governments recovery plans. Most of them are criticizing the basic assumptions of the current economic model, focusing on sustainable development, which has become the main driving force of economic recovery. EU programs “Beyond GDP” and Europe 2002, the report of J. Stiglitz, and Global Green New Deal are also presented.
