Summary/Abstract: This article is a part of a comprehensive interdisciplinary study of Slavic martyrdom in the context of the Christian ideas of sanctity. It deals with the transition of the Slavs from Indo-European paganism to the Euro- Christian civilization which coincided with the transition of their societies from a tribal to a state system. Further, the specifics of the Slavic martyrdom of that period are analyzed in both chronological and typological plan from the first Slavic martyr - St. Enravota-Boyan (+833), through St. Adalbert of Prague (+997), and the Polish and Russian victims of the Mongolo-Tatarian invasion in Eastern Europe, to the last victims of the paganism - the Lithuanian martyrs Antony, Yoan and Eustathy (+1347).
