Summary/Abstract: Public procurement is one of the market tools which could be useful for the development of knowledge and innovation based economy. It is particularly aimed to improve a framework of innovation activities for enterprises. The main purpose of the paper is the assessment of role and significance of enterprises with foreign capital on the public procurement market in Poland. Special attention is paid to their innovation activities and their opinion about the possibility to use public procurement as a tool supporting innovativeness in comparison with the opinion about enterprises with the Polish capital only. Data used for the analysis are based on the results of a survey conducted on a random sample of 685 enterprises in Poland among which there are public procurement suppliers (potential public procurement suppliers) and entities which have never participated in public contracts. The results of the analysis show that firms with foreign capital are more innovative and are characterized by higher scale of supply on the public procurement market.
