Summary/Abstract: The political transformation of Polish economy had significant influence on the targets and methods of shaping socio-economic sphere of the state. One of the basic issues, which solution was of key importance in economic policy of the state, was the phenomenon of increasing polarization both in the regional and state dimension. Special economic zones were among different elements of the regional policy which was conducted on the national level. However, the effectiveness of the instrument is difficult to assess and it is strongly affected by changeable law regulations and economic fluctuations. The paper offers an analysis the phenomenon of special economic zones, conducted from the perspective of entrepreneurs operating in Special Economic Zone for Medium Business of Kamienna Góra, Special Economic Zone of Legnica and Special Economic Zone “INVEST-PARK” of Wałbrzych.
