Summary/Abstract: Representations of the Person within the Italian Chronogenesis. Our goal is to highlight the vocalic system’s logic of use in morphology related to the representation of verbal person in Italian, by focusing specifically on the morphological productivity of the -o vowel, then by carefully examining the vocalism of verb endings and subject pronouns. I show that 1) the diversity of personal pronouns and inflectional forms of Italian conjugation results from a routine in which the representation of the person is based on vocalic hierarchy, 2) on subjunctive and indicative modes, semantic information on the anticipation criterion carried by thematic vowels may be reflected in verbal endings and be intimately involved in person information, 3) the vocalism of verbal endings reveals the spatial origin of the person representation based on phonetic opposition backward/forward which is nothing but a spatial opposition inside/outside.
