Summary/Abstract: The subject matter of the article is the analysis of the role of the term ‘służba’ as it is described by the verb ‘służyć’ (to serve) and the noun ‘służba’ (service, the servants). A brief syntactic-semantic analysis of the term ‘służba’ was carried out on the basis of selected dictionary definitions and usages of the words ‘słuz˙yc´’ and ‘słuz˙ba’ in contemporary Polish. The paper shows and describes semantic elements characteristic for the term ‘służba’ and presents the consequences of their occurrence in the understanding of the type of conduct which can be described by the word ‘służba’.
