Types of Linguistic Innovations in the Language of Polish Intelligentsia in the Vilnius Region

Summary/Abstract: The article deals with linguistic innovations in the standard Polish language used in Lithuania. Linguistic innovations in question are restricted territorially (to the Polish language in the Vilnius region) as well as socially - they emerge in the language of Polish intelligentsia in Lithuania, in public discourse in the media, radio and TV. The examples provided in the article indicate that a regional variant of the standard Polish language is starting to develop in the Vilnius area. In this variant on can notice various processes consistent with Polish-wide processes, as well as the emergence of linguistic innovations restricted territorially and resulting mostly from the contact with some other languages spoken in Lithuania.
