Summary/Abstract: The subject matter of the article is the phenomenon of mocking local dialects which is an expression of an evaluative approach adopted by inhabitants of villages towards language forms which are different from their own in phonetic, morphological and dictionary respect. Negative perception, which is often accompanied by surprise or mockery, is also conditioned by unnatural behaviour based on imitating the way city dwellers speak (hypercorrection) or by the awareness of language differences between peasant and gentryowned villages in the Mazovia district. The language content of the article is based on excerpts from literature and spoken utterances of the inhabitants of the area of Kielce gathered by the author and found in other dialectological studies. The category of the mocked language forms is varied. In most cases, it concerns individual features of the local dialect. Despite difficulties in gathering the data illustrating the sociolinguistic subject of mocking local dialects, it is still worth focusing on the issue during local dialectological studies.
