Summary/Abstract: The study discusses some general structural regularities which are taken into account in the description of the neutral order in Polish. The main subject of the paper is the description of detailed rules concerning, among others, internal order of the nominal phrase components, the linear position of Polish enclitic sie˛ and the order of the chosen metapredicative and metatextual operators, especially particles. Moreover, the basic differences between the neutral order and the marked one are discussed. Both types of order should be kept in accordance with language conventions. The marked order is formed by the speaker individually in a given act of speech. The utterances which differ in ordering their elements can be compared from the viewpoint of the neutral order and marked one only if they are synonymous. Furthermore, the influence of marked order as well as prosodic features of utterance on its thematic-rhematic structure is taken into account. In many places of the article numerous difficulties in distinguishing two types of order are emphasized.
