Summary/Abstract: The paper is an attempt to unravel the fate of traditional Bulgarian and Serbian calendar holiday of Saint Tryphon, in the period of the new millennium and the penetration of a foreign holiday, St Valentine / Valentine's Day, celebrated as day of lovers. The coincidence of the date of their celebration – 14th February - raise the question of how these holidays coexist and what they have in common. Along with this, the paper discusses the reactions of opposing the new festival. Although St Valentine was received and incorporated into customary systems of the two peoples, there are differences in the way of its adoption and adaptation. This paper analyzes the changes that adopted foreign holiday have suffered in new areas, which submitted it to rules of their system. Bulgarians and Serbs, by celebrating of St. Valentine's Day in specific ways, openly show desire to belong to a global culture, while at the same time to remain loyal to their traditions.
