Summary/Abstract: When we talk about globalization and post-communist transition, we usually think of the way Western concepts and institutions such as the civic spirit, neo-liberalism and constitutional courts have traveled to Eastern Europe during the past decade. The big issues relate to pro-active and reactive post-communist states that adopt, reject or modify models and strategies suggested, and sometimes forcefully imposed, by Western governments and international financial organizations.
