Posting of workers in the European Union: rules and empirical analysis

Summary/Abstract: The posting of workers is currently debated in the European Union, although it is already regulated since the late 90s. The main reason is the lack of agreement how to balance economic and social dimensions of this phenomenon. The European Commission has proposed new initiatives in order to resolve the conflict which aggravated after 1 May 2004. This paper considers the European rules governing the posting of workers in particular in the light of recent legislative initiatives and provides an empirical analysis of posting of workers.
