Summary/Abstract: The paper describes and analyses the parlamentarism, legislative power and party system of the Czechoslovak Republic during the interwar period. The democratic system as reflected in the constitution, the parlamentarism from Masaryk’s point of view, the party system and the political culture are the main topics of this article. The major factors explaining the vitality of the Czechoslovak political system were: the constitution, the decentralization of the civil service and the local government and its apolitical character, the quality of the political leadership and the democratic tradition, plus political culture of the Czechoslovak population.
