Summary/Abstract: Globalization, technological change, intense competition, fluctuating consumer demand and economic and political changes encourage managers to act proactively, take greater risks and to select appropriate strategies. It should be noted that both the strategic management theorists and practitioners in their works have focused on the firm’s competitive advantage and its maintenance. On the other hand, the opinion that such results can be obtained relatively rarely and they are short- termed has been proposed. In some industries or business sectors competitive advantage is impacted by fierce competition and rapid technological change. However, the growth of the firm domestically forms preconditions to select internationalization strategies. However, firms, selecting different modes of internationalization, differ in their performance. Therefore, it is appropriate to raise the questions: why some firms are more successful than others in international markets. The paper investigates the interrelationships of the determinants of competitive advantage, internationalization and strategic decisions and provides recommendations for further research.
