Summary/Abstract: The article deals with issues accruing in translating essays, discussed on the example of Theodor W. Adorno’s Aufzeichnungen zu Kafka which has had two Polish translations to date. The author’s detailed linguistic analysis of these translations (identifying semantic and syntactic relations/associations: the structure of sentences/clauses, phraseology, etc.) is confronted with the features of the source text. The discussion focuses on two questions: (i) What is the central difficultly about translating Adorno’s essays into Polish about? And, (ii) how have the (female) translators dealt with it?
