Summary/Abstract: The aim of the paper is to explore the apparitions of what Derrida called the “unnameable” or “almost unnameable thing”, whose visor effect haunts our imagination. The article attempts to trace a path through different canonical interpretations of the significance of Hamlet’s addressing the ghost in a familiar tone, as “old mole”, before the ghost returns to the grave (by Hegel, Nietzsche, Freud, Lacan, Goethe , Coleridge, Eliot, Joyce, Derrida, Cixous, Lukacher).
