Summary/Abstract: The author addresses the fundamental dimensions of Islamic piety (testimony, faith and benefaction), with reference to the well-known hadith of the Prophet in which the angel Gabriel, through the mediation of the Prophet Muhammad a.s., instructs the Muslims in their faith. In this the author attempts in particular to demonstrate that these three dimensions, or the three ways or paths associated with them (shari’a, tariqa and haqiqa) express what we designate as Islam as a whole, in its metaphysical, cultural and civilizational aspects.
