Summary/Abstract: In connection with the ongoing process of population aging in Europe in recent years, both in politics and in scientific research, more and more attention is given to older people and their participation in socio-economical life. The relatively early (compared to the other European countries) professional deactivation of older people in Poland was the main reason to consider in this article the factors that motivate the elderly for extending their working life. The purpose of this paper is to identify groups of factors influencing the decisions of older Poles to stay in employment or to get the retirement, as well as proposals for measures to increase work’s incentives and reduce premature retirement.
