Archiving of Intangible Cultural Heriatege in the Republic of Macedonia

Summary/Abstract: The obligations from the national legal framework and the ratified UNESCO Convention for Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage (Paris 2003), promoted the need for the ICH to become a special, differentiated subject of protection in the system for protection of cultural heritage as a whole. In the Republic of Macedonia, the systematic research of the traditional spiritual culture has lasted for more than 60 years and the results of that long process have been stored in 7 specialized archives. Some of them (MANU and IRAM) have already active programs for digitalization of the analogue carriers, and after the introducing of the official state Strategy for digitalization of cultural heritage by the Ministry of culture in 2010, we expect to have a systematic approach towards the digitalization of the valorised cultural heritage.
