Summary/Abstract: The drawing decoration of the chapel of st. Joseph dating back to the second half of 70s of the 17th century was probably one of the largests projects of A. M. Lublinský, a painter of the Olomouc region. Besides the wall painting, we are familiar with nine drawings that deal with themes of life of the Holy Family, and St. Joseph is the central figure there. The chapel was, however, destroyed in 1814 and substantial parts of the decoration have been lost. Still, we can get an idea about the paintings due to the preserved collection of Lublinský’s drawings. These, undoubtedly, can be regarded as preparatory studies that preceded the realization of the decorations. Apart from the drawings made by Lublinský, the collection contains several drawings of different authors, and these deal with the iconography of St. Joseph and present it in various ways (two drawings of Pietro Testa, a copy according to Andrey Sacchi). There are also two drawings of a Lublinský’s contemporary, Jan Jiří Heinsch, dealing with the motive of “Dream of St. Joseph” and these pieces can be regarded as particularly interesting. Due to the co-existence of Heinsch’s drawings in the Lublinský’s collection, we can assume that the artists knew works of each other, even though one worked in Olomouc and the other one in Prague. The only preserved drawing that remained of the original decoration of the chapel of St. Joseph is a masterpiece with the theme of “St. Joseph adoring the Birth of Christ” that is found in the collections of the archbishopric of Olomouc.
