Summary/Abstract: The quality of life as a complex and multifaceted category comprises the subject of research of many scientific disciplines. The very concept of quality of life and attempts to quantify it are different, depending on the research methods and measurement tools relevant to the discipline. The category of the quality of life is also a practical dimension − it constitutes the object of the interest in the individual scale – of every human, as well as in the collective scale − local, regional, etc. The main purpose of this paper is to characterize selected initiatives of the methodology of the research on the subjective quality of life at different levels of management. The article also presents the research on the subjective quality of life being carried out in the Saxon-Polish border area. The feature that distinguishes this research from others conducted at local and regional levels is an attempt to answer the question about the impact of the position of individual frontier town on the quality of life of the population.
