Summary/Abstract: The text is dealing with correlation between media, democracy, human rights and freedoms – values which compared one with another constitute inseparable two-way interdependence, which on logical and associative level, or semantically and formally resembles in metaphorical sense to “Food & Beverages” or “Life & Health” (Media – Democracy; Democracy – Human Rights; Media – Rights and Freedoms). Therefore, when one is omitted, presence of another is questioned; when one is not fully established, challenges with other are inevitable; for good understanding of the first, the second needs to be analysed. Since we are discussing on generally very complex phenomenons which can be seen form various angles, the standpoints in this text are reduced and directed only to nature and level of their inter-correlations, to possible deviations from “ideal” formula in their relations, to emphasising positive and negative examples, and results and incarnations in line with balance or possible misbalance in certain relations. Furthermore, since the analysis includes various phenomenon and terms that are included in such correlation (i.e. media pluralism, media landscape, media concentration, public interest, Public Broadcasting Service, etc...), the author tried to defined more precisely those determinants – foremost the Public Broadcasting Services – the key watchdogs of democracy, rights and liberties. Finally, the text provides overview on new media challenges – the introduction of digital broadcasting (within this topic framework), and brief information on what has been done to date in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with challenges that lays ahead.
