Summary/Abstract: The article treats the positive influence of the 1956 April Plenum of the Central Committee of the Bulgarian Communist Party in the sphere of artistic culture. The author underlines the substantial changes and achievements of our present-day folkloristics and the basic trends in the process of interpreting and promoting our folk arts tradition. He considers the various folklore initiatives of the people, mainly the folklore rallies, the appearance and the development of professional choruses and ensembles and he points out the influx of young talented performers of folklore, the affiliation of the people with the folk arts, their broad popularization, as well as the interest towards folklore on the part of contemporary Bulgarian men of arts. The conclusion is drawn that this interest, characteristic of Bulgarian society and our national culture in general, does not disappear in our days but, on the contrary, it acquires new tendencies and new dimensions. Brief account is also given in the article of the positive changes in the development of Bulgarian folkloristics after September 9th, 1944, and especially after the 1956 April Plenum of the Central Committee of the Bulgarian Communist Party. Finally, the author points out that new important tasks face our folklorists both with regard to the advanced development of science and the up-to-date “equipment” of the folklore studies.
