Summary/Abstract: The Faculty of Architecture was the first faculty at the University of Sarajevo to independently initiate the implementation of the educational process in accordance with the Bologna Declaration (in the 2003/2004 academic year), when a comprehensive and adequate system of quality assurance did not even exist. Today, the teaching process is performed for all three educational cycles. Assurance and the promotion of education process quality is the current challenge our faculty is facing in order to enter the European Higher Education Area. Although the Bologna Declaration represents the basis foe quality assurance, the education of architects also needs to be harmonized with the EC2005/36 Directive, which regulates professions including the profession of “architect”. This paper provides an overview of the basic activities that need to be undertaken in the higher education institutions’ accreditation process, with special emphasis being placed on architectural faculties.
