Promotion of “Positive Progress of Youth” in the Post Conflict Circumstances Through Strengthening of Civil Society Engagement in the Community

Summary/Abstract: This paper analyses potential aspects of promotion of “positive youth development” in BiH environment within the context of theoretical comprehension of the development theory of personality by understanding positive youth development as “a continuous process of growth that includes all young persons trying to (1) respond to their basic personal and social needs for safety, care, respect, sense of usefulness and affiliation, and (2) to develop skills and competences to enable them to function in and to contribute to the society in their everyday lives” (Pittman, 1998:8). Human rights education, especially its model of empowerment as well as encouragement of youth to participate in different institution of civil life rate among relevant instruments for obtaining positive results in the youth development, that go deep behind strategies directed towards elimination and elevation of the impact of risk factor as well as enhancement of the impact of protective factors related to occurring of different non adaptive youth behavior. Elaborating fundamental thesis of the three aforementioned theoretical concepts (youth positive development, human rights education as empowerment and civil community engagement) and their potential integration into comprehensive approach to the youth, the paper will develop potential strengths of this approach and analyze potential obstacles to its full implementation within BiH context.
