Summary/Abstract: Ethnic relations in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the eve of WW I were the result of internal political processes that had been developing in this part of the continent since 1878, on the one hand; while, on the other, they were strongly influenced by general turbulences in the Balkans of that era. This paper uses the example of the Hrvatska misao review that was issued in Bosnia and Herzegovina before WW I, trying to demonstrate how efforts were made to build the Croatian ethnic identity among the Bosniaks, i.e. what attempts were made to integrate Bosnian-Herzegovinian Muslims into the Croatian nation. The paper’s main thesis is that, in Bosnia and Herzegovina, this was a rather complicated process, whereby the phase of national propaganda had different degrees of success depending not only on its very proponents, but also on its targets. It turned out that this phase of propaganda aimed at integrating the Muslims in Bosnia and Herzegovina into the Croatian nation has ultimately failed.
