Summary/Abstract: Following a brief discussion of the relationship between loan words and their models with respect to translation, as well as of the concept of "false friends", an existing false friend typology is presented. The described types, along with some new ones, are then discussed and illustrated with pairs of false friends, each composed of a Croatian anglicism and its wrongly supposed English "correspondent". It is reconfirmed that anglicisms, since they are similar but not equal to their English models, require special attention in translation.
