Summary/Abstract: The article focuses on the author of the original text and his/her role in the translation process. It explores various modes of the author's direct and indirect influence at different stages of the process, namely in the creation of the original text, during the act of translation, at the time of the reader's / hearer's interpretation of the translated text. Some comments are also made regarding the possibility of establishing the original author's influence by studying the translated text or by witnessing the translation situation. It is pointed out that a comprehensive awareness of various modes of the original author's presence in the translation process can contribute towards a better and more self-assured performance of the translator and thereby towards a more successful outcome of the translation / communication process.
