Summary/Abstract: The article aims at tracing the interrelations between the development of the artistic form of plant ornament in Bulgarian folk embroidery, and the coded in it content. The study of the ornament as a sign for a certain spiritual or social phenomenon allows to penetrate in its own "spirtualised" being. The hypothesis of the predominant reproducing symbolics of the plant ornament is supported by typical for Bulgarian embroidery examples, and by a series of its variants as well. One of the main conclusions of the study is that the separate plastic solutions of the ornament enlarge the possibilities of the coded text and also enrich the social content of Bulgarian embroidery art.
