Summary/Abstract: A Polish Courtier (Dworzanin polski) by Łukasz Górnicki reflects the poetics of a literary symposium (Lat. convivium). In this thesis I indicate the presence of characteristic features of the ancient genre in the structure of the Polish translation of Cortegiano II Baldassare Castiglione. Genre determinants, which appear in the Górnicki’s translation include the following: external and internal narration, the order of the talks dictated by the rhythm of food consumption, the absence of women in the talks, significant number of interlocutors (9), carrying out disputes under the direction of the oldest feaster especially elected for this purpose, exposing the idea of social equality and references to the ancient and renaissance regale dialogues in the structure of the work. Górnicki created Dworzanin polski with the use of a refined form of symposium. He went away from the original pattern. The determinants of the genre of a symposium are the factors, which mostly influenced the changes introduced by the governor of Tykocin in the narrative frame of the Italian original.
