Summary/Abstract: At the beginning, the article discusses the first cinematographic projections in Alba Iulia in the last years of the 19th century and the early years of the 20th century. In fact, for Transylvannia, the first motion movie show took place in Alba Iulia, in 17th of April 1898. On the next levels, the study analyzes aspects of the Alba Iulia’s cinemas during the 20s, with the theatres, the audience, the movies. For instance, during the discussed period Alba Iulia’s population was slightly over 10,000, so it was unusual for the city to support two cinemas simultaneously. Also, late in the 20s, a cinema entrepreneur had to pay a considerable fee for the right to organize cinema projections, making his business more difficult. Another issue is about the movies presented in Alba Iulia, many of them being produced in Europe, especially German films, then French, Italian, Hungarian, although people could also watch American films. Secondly, the article focuses on the Cinema & Film review, issued in Alba Iulia from 1923 to 1925, one of the first Romanian publications on the cinematographic domain, and perhaps the first one which approaches the field of motion pictures in all respects. However, the content is partly technical, partly propagandistic, but there is still a lot of room for the artistic aspects of film.
