Summary/Abstract: Adequate resources are the most important factors for survival, growth and development of the organization. Scholars increasingly focus on intangible resources. Among others, these include competencies of managers and employees. A large part of them are universal: important for achieving success at all times. However, it can be assumed that due to different characteristics of companies in various stages of their development, the importance of these competencies will change on the organizations’ development paths. This article attempts to identify the key competencies of managers and employees, which determine its competitiveness in specific stages of development. This issue is not new, but the literature on the subject matter is fragmented. As the background considerations, the most recognizable among both scholars and practitioners model of organizational growth and development, L.E. Greiner’s model, was chosen.
