Summary/Abstract: The report informs about the conference "Local Strategies - International Ambitions. Modern Art and Central Europe. 1918-1968" held in Prague, 11-14 June 2003. It was organised by the Institute of Art History of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic together with the University of New York in Praque. The forum brought together a wide spectrum of scholarly views on architecture and visual art of Central and Eastern Europe, focusing on the issues of identity, regional specificity and the notions of centres and peripheries.
