Summary/Abstract: The topic of this paper is the application of multi-tiered phonology to the study of prosodic phenomena. The first section provides an introduction to autosegmental phonology, as well as several examples of non-linear approach to certain linguistic facts not related to accent. The aim of the second section is to demonstrate how various prosodic, mainly tonal phenomena, which could not be accounted for adequately by older theories, can be handled with this approach. The third section focuses on the prosody of the Croatian language - it is primarily concerned with one of the autosegmental approaches to standard Croatian accentuation, but also addresses certain dialectal prosodic phenomena.
