The body on the surface of the image.

Summary/Abstract: Kosińska reviews Paulina Kwiatkowska’s book "Somatografia. Ciało w obrazie filmowym" ("Somatography. The Body in Film Image", 2011). Kwiatkowska, using the ideas of Gilles Deleuze (cinema of movement-image, cinema of time-image) and Roland Barthes (third sense), analyses the feedback relationship between the body and the image plane, in which the body has been incorporated. The concept of somatography is to show the ways of incorporating the body into the image. By adopting such a research perspective, Kwiatkowska presents in her book analyses of five films from the late 1950s and 1960s, that are relevant to the practice of somatography.
