Peculiarities of Self Perception and Social Cognition of Adolescent with Different Social Background

Summary/Abstract: Adolescence distinguishes by wide range of psychological problems, including intrapersonal and interpersonal conflicts, saltatory maturation, discomfort referring to teenager‘s body features. The increasing contradiction between values of the maturing juvenile and his parents, more intensive feeling of his personal identity, the changing social status enforces the adolescent to cognize not only the surrounding world, but his person as the part of this world. In modern society when the process of socialization becomes highly significant, but more complicated as well, there comes a new demand to analyze the adolescent‘s self-perception and relationship with the social environment referring to different social conditions. The article deals with the aim to analyze the self-perception and relationship with social environment of adolescents with different backgroud (one-parent and two-parent families). The tasks of research include: 1. To analyze the relationship with social environment of adolescents with different social background 2. To define the level of self-esteem, self-respect and self-expression of adolescents from one-parent and two-parent families. The research group comprised of 15–16 years old adolescents (n = 185) from one-parent and two-parent families. Conclusions. The research defined, that group behavioural standards and social values are less significant for the adolescent from one-parent families (p < 0,05). It was stated that differs the level of respondents self-respect and self-esteem – the level of self-respect and self-esteem of the respondents from two-parent families was higher (p < 0,05). Research results indicate, that the respondent‘s relationship with social environment was not related to family status.
