Summary/Abstract: The Greek trireme was the most used warship in the classical period of ancient Greek history. The trireme had played a very important role for the fleet of the ancient Greek city states from the seventh century B.C. to the outbreak of the Peloponnesian War. Also the trireme was the vehicle used by the Athenians in their attempt to dominate the Greek world. Some issues were raised by historians regarding the position of the rowers and the oar system.
