Exchange speculation in rouble bank-note rate and countermeasures of the Ministry of finance (1887-1894)

Summary/Abstract: The article studies the policy of the Russian government directed to stabilize the financial system of the country at the period of I. A. Vyshegradskiy and S. Yu. Vitte being in office. On the eve of the introduction of the gold backing of currency it was important to obviate unreasonable sharp fluctuations of the exchange rate and restrict exchange speculation in rouble bank-note rate.
