Summary/Abstract: The process of survey acculturation in Poland has covered several stages, namely ‘initiation’ into acculturation, ‘façade’, ‘propaganda’ and ‘mass’ acculturation and, finally, ‘fetishization of surveys’. The acculturation process has declined as a result of the 2005 election campaign accompanied by excessive media and political instrumentalisation of opinion polls. A positive public image of surveys has been tarnished by numerous degrading techniques undermining their cognitive value, their role in boosting social self-knowledge and social capital. This, in turn, may undermine the reputation of sociological empirical studies in general.
