Summary/Abstract: Starting from the long debated civilization paradigm initiated by Huntington and based upon the role of religion, this study is aimed at investigating the problem of Turkey’s integration in the European Union, both from the Turkish perspective and the European one. Structured on two distinct parts, our current research seeks, on one hand, to point out a possible internal Turkish crisis, reflected in the significant changes of Islamism, felt after the secularization process initiated by Ataturk and continued by his supporters:; on the other hand we will note the amplification of an international-wide crisis, noted in the position that Europeans adopted towards accepting Turkey in the EU. Between these two levels, we will also talk about sensible topics for Turkey, such as: political Islam, Islam resurgence, privatization and deprivatization of religion; regarding EU, the following question rises: is it a civilizational identity project, with a Christian heritage or does it aims to be a multi-civilizational and multi-religious project, which accepts among its components Islamic countries.
