Summary/Abstract: Translations of the Latin American prose were published in Poland between 1968-1981 mainly by two publishing houses from Warsaw: Państwowy Instytut Wydawniczy and Czytelnik, as well as Wydawnictwo Literackie from Krakow. Then Warsavian publishers opted to introduce Latin American novels into already existing series devoted to contemporary literature. Wydawnictwo Literackie created a separate series in which Latin American prose were published. The type of peritexts which accompanied these translations was a natural consequence of the decision to publish the books within the specific series. The purpose of the study is to discuss the way of presenting Spanish American prose to the Polish readers by the publishers, especially the way the peritexts were elaborated, and to establish to what extent they could be treated as a part of editorial strategies.
