Summary/Abstract: It is well known that the philosophy of the most prominent Bulgarian philosopher in the period between the two World Wars – D. Michaltchew – has hardly being changed during his creative life. Not withstanding this fact, however, the assessment of his philosophy in Bulgaria enjoys a most wide range of qualifications: from the contention that he is “Kant at the Balkans” to the stigma that he is an “ultra-reactionary philosopher”. Various reasons for this evaluative diversity of Michaltchew’s philosophical and cultural presence are sought and considered.
