Summary/Abstract: This paper deals with the students’ motives for learning a foreign language. The constructs of the motivational phenomenon are presented and analysed from the educational perspective with emphasis on the relationship between the motivational variables and the students’ learning strategies, on the one hand, and the teacher’s instructional strategies, on the other hand. The frame of the main motives in the foreign language engineering students group is considered as against the personality factors and the individual determination for the foreign language communicative performances.
