Summary/Abstract: This work presents an analysis of the state of contemporary scientific knowledge in the realm of a problem, little known or elaborated by Bulgarian science, viz. the problem of ethnic culturing as a process of attracting the individual to the ethnically specific culture of the group, whose member he is. In the light of the achievements of individual researchers, representatives of scientific schools and trends in anthropology, sociology and ethno-psychology, the author deduces a working apparatus of concepts, which could be of use in ethnological studies of the socialisation of the individual and the handing down of ethnic stereotypes between the generations. Some approaches and methodological imprecision employed by modern researchers in their interpretations of phenomena of the kind of ethos, ethno-confessional community and ethnic interrelations have been subjected to critical analysis. Following the evolution of the scholarly quests of researchers dealing with the "Culture and Personality" sphere, the author brings forward a variant of a theoretical model for the interpretation of culture, which could be presented as a configuration of assimilated modes of behaviour and their results, whose constituent elements are shared and handed down by the members of the (specific!) community under consideration. This definition has been "extended" to include its constitutent substructures and has been considered from two mutually interdependent points of view: from the point of view of the community and from the point of view of the individual.
